Health tourism is a major rising trend in the last years affecting the tourism industry and possibly providing the potential for differentiation. The trend for active and healthy lifestyle of tourists due to lifestyle changes such as lack of exercise and work-related stress in everyday life, as well as increased health awareness and increased interest in various leisure activities leads to further health tourism segments. Alpine urban destinations with their attractive landscapes are suitable destinations to provide active lifestyles for end consumers during health vacations, as they offer tourists year-round opportunities for nature-based outdoor activities and recreation.
Hence the question raises: What are the needs of active lifestyle end consumers in Alpine urban destinations in terms of health tourism and what services health tourism stakeholders can offer to meet this trend? The active lifestyle of end consumers in Alpine urban destinations in terms of health tourism has not yet been investigated, the data situation is insufficient and scientific studies are missing. To shed light on this topic, for this designated doctoral thesis a mixed-method design will be used.
