Institute of Measurement and Sensor Technology
As part of the further expansion of the Department for Medical Informatics and Mechatronics of the Tyrolean private university UMIT, the Institute for Measurement and Sensor Technology (IMS) was founded on September 1st, 2017.
Sensors and measuring systems play an outstanding role in application fields such as automation technology, medical technology or robotics. They help the respective system to perceive its environment by providing quantitative information on a wide variety of physical, biological or chemical quantities and parameters.
Within this large field, we at IMS mainly focus on the measurement of physical quantities with areas of application mainly in medical technology, automation technology and bio-process engineering. We are also active in medical research, especially in phoniatrics, a scientific field which covers speech production.
A focus on interdisciplinary applications is very important to us both in research and teaching. We think that future-oriented research is possible above all through the use of synergy effects, which result from the interaction of different scientific disciplines. In our research projects, we work among others with mathematicians, natural scientists and medical doctors.
