EU Horizon Europe PARC
The Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC) is a multinational European project funded for 7 years under the Horizon Europe Program and coordinated by ANSES, the French Agency for Food Safety, Environmental Protection, and Occupational Health. In PARC, close to 200 institutions from 28 member states in Europe and three EU authorities, including the European Chemical Agency (ECHA), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the European Environment Agency (EEA), are working together developing better chemical risk assessment and supporting the implementation of research and innovation for societal benefit. The project PARC supports the European Union's Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability and the European Green Deal's “Zero pollution” ambition with new data, knowledge, methods and tools, expertise, and networks.
This will be achieved through three general objectives:
- Develop the scientific skills needed to address current and future challenges in chemical safety.
- Provide new data, methods, and innovative tools to those responsible for assessing and managing the risks of chemical exposure.
- Strengthen the networks which bring together actors specialized in the different scientific fields contributing to risk assessment.
PARC includes public partners, such as European and national risk assessment agencies, universities, and public research organizations, five Directorates-General of the European Commission (DG-RTD, DG-GROW, DG-ENV, DG-SANTE and JRC), and relevant national ministries of participating EU countries contributing to the PARC governance monitoring activities.
UMIT TIROL is involved as an affiliated entity in two Work Packages (WP) contributing to “Synergies, collaborations and awareness” (WP3) and “Building infrastructural and human capacities” (WP9). UMIT TIROL will contribute on developing and ensuring good and transparent external communication material (short videos on activities and key results) and dissemination to increase the visibility of PARC and the impact of the knowledge generated amongst policymakers, scientists, citizens, and other stakeholders at national, EU, and international level. In addition, the work aims to reinforce the links between science and policy and the connection with citizens. Furthermore, UMIT TIROL is involved to support the organization of trainings for PARC members and the risk assessment / risk management communities in order to develop new or expand existing human capacities. This involves the identification and prioritization of training needs and existing training courses as well as the establishment of training plans.
