COURSE OVERVIEW

This course combines lectures, discussions and case study group works in the key elements and methods of Health Economics (HE), Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Health Decision Science.

The course is aimed at members of:
  • Healthcare & health policy organizations, national HTA Agencies
  • Pharmaceutical & medical device industry
  • Academia and research institutions
  • Health insurances/sickness funds
  • Consultancy organizations
  • Patient representative organizations 
Course Pre-requisites

This is an introductory course, there are no pre-requisites. Course language is English.


THE COURSE COVERS THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

  • Key principles and practice of HE and HTA
  • Assessing health outcomes; clinical and epidemiological study types; utilities and the QALY concept
  • Assessing resource utilization and costs; economic study types (cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, cost-benefit, etc.), budget impact analysis
  • Cost-effectiveness analysis along the trial (using patient-level data)
  • Decision-analytic modelling in HE; model types (decision trees, Markov models, discrete event simulation, agent-based models)
  • Assessing uncertainty
  • Informing pricing and reimbursement decisions; league tables, ICER thresholds
  • Using real world evidence (RWE) in HE
  • Critical study appraisal
  • Good practices and guidelines for economic evaluation, (EUnetHTA, ISPOR-SMDM, CHEERS, etc.)
  • Context-specific application of economic evaluation in HTA;
  • Health Economics and HTA from different perspectives (agency, industry, decision maker etc.)
  • Breakout sessions and exercises assessing health economic publications

Certificates will be provided to all participants after the course.

VAT is not payable.

Course fees include a comprehensive syllabus, an extensive binder with background reading material and course certificate, but not accommodation.

Cancellation Policy

From the time of receipt of the registration confirmation, 25% of the participation fee will be charged as a cancellation fee. Two weeks before the start of the training, a cancellation fee of 50% of the participation fee will be charged. The entire participation fee must be paid within 14 days of receipt of the invoice.

In the event of a no-show at the start of the course, the entire participation fee will be invoiced.

A substitute participant, who must be named by the participating person to UMIT TIROL, can be accepted without additional costs. Please email new delegates details when known.

In the unlikely event that, due to unforeseen circumstances or insufficient enrollment, the course has to be cancelled by the UMIT TIROL, our liability is limited to refund of course fees only. We recommend that delegates have adequate insurance cover to claim any travel or personal expenses.
