Programme objectives

The eight doctoral programmes (Dr. phil.) offered at the Tyrolean Private University UMIT TIROL help candidates to complement and enhance the academic and scientific skills acquired in a previous university programme.

The objective of the doctoral programme is to provide candidates with the qualifications necessary to perform independent academic and scientific research in their respective field. A doctoral programme serves as the foundation for an academic career and provides graduates with the necessary qualifications for leading positions e.g. in public and private healthcare organizations or in industry.

The Degree Regulations outline a number of measures to support doctoral candidates in the acquisition of their degree. Personal academic advising is guaranteed within the framework of a thesis contract. A review of the research concept aims at ensuring the academic quality and feasibility of the concept as well as considering its ethical aspects. Lectures and seminars aid in the acquisition and reinforcement of the necessary academic and scientific skills and give the students an opportunity to interact with other candidates and with the instructors. The results of the research work are to be published in the relevant journals in order to foster academic and scientific exchange.

The doctoral programmes to acquire the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) at the Tyrolean Private University UMIT TIROL are especially designed with the needs of working professionals in mind.
